Being the same age as Jim, I was a college student while he spent his year in Vietnam. Much to my lifelong regret, I was one of those students who cold shouldered the returning Vets. I wish I could turn back the clock and redo the past. Thank you Doc for a great read and I apologize for not supporting you returning Vets. Thank you for sharing your heart felt story and your heroic service. Jim's book is a must read, don't miss it.

builder 5 stars Great Combat Medic Story

was an Army medic from 71 to 73. I was drafted right when they stopped send masses of troops to Nam. I did not get orders for Nam and stayed at a tiny base near Chicago. I worked with several returning medics from Nam and hung out with them some. The writer clearly resembled them in his attitude and changes. I really related to his comments that his training was grossly inadequate. This was a very readable story and i recommend it highly. I thank God I never went to Nam. I felt guilty about not going but always knew it was best i had not. I wish no one had.

KansasScout Very good first person account of an Army medic
